Project context:
Passenger station
The project includes the development of passenger stations to the elevated track of Aeromóvel public transportation. These Aeromóvel lines travel the districts of Centro and Mathias Velho, in the city of Canoas-RS.
In this project, VZ&CO sought to solve a lot of different site situations, developing stations that attend to issues ranging from narrowing of the lanes to the integration of existing pedestrian bridges and train stations.
The project involves the implantation of 16 station lines designed by VZ&CO, which were elaborated strategically to support the public demand. All the studies are still in feasibility phase in the city, without prevision of the construction.
The challenge
The main project challenge was to attend different station typologies. There was the need of integration of each line to the surrounding, maintaining the client standards and also meeting the requisites of the transport system operation.
Secondary challenges
Another challenge was to reduce the floor ground occupation without greater impacts in surrounding tracks that cross with the existing infrastructure and upcoming projects, like the bicycle lane that connects the main parks of the city, still assuring the safety and comfort of the users.
Solutions
Comfort and safety
In circulation areas wire nets were used, allowing permeability and visibility of the staircases that are the access to the boarding platform.
To reduce the impact of the station on the neighborhood, which usually has lanes with bottlenecks, we looked for an integration on the floors with access to street, bringing urban furniture, gardens areas and integration with bicycle lanes.
Technical solutions
The aeromovel operational system works with compressed air propulsion, the machines that generate this propulsion cause a lot of noise and, because of that, sound attenuators were used in the technical floor of the stations. On this floor were also installed power generators to assure the station operation. As the system works autonomously, without human interference, self ticket printing machines were added to the project.
To assure surrounding connections, the levels of the stations were carefully checked, meeting the demands. This is the case of IPUC Station, where it was necessary to integrate the aeromovel system to the Trensurb station through an existing footbridge, maintaining the necessary level of the elevated and the necessary height for the circulation of large vehicles.
All the stations were projected to provide the lowest maintenance cost as possible and to prevent vandalism. The precast concrete structures were designed with anti-graffiti products and the wire nets used in the staircases are made of a plastic material, eliminating the risk of corrosion.
